WLA Weed Watchers and others have reported seeing strange looking masses floating below water level.

The NH Lakes organization has released a report about this algae which is attached below.

We encourage you to visit their website and support their efforts in protecting New Hampshire lakes.

Association Members,

It looks like Spring has finally arrived in Washington.  While the lake is still mostly ice covered and there is still plenty of snow in the woods, my prediction is that ice out will occur sometime later on this week. Dam boards will go in right after ice out.

As an FYI New Hampshire Fish and Game is warning hikers and homeowners that Bears are out of hibernation and looking for food.  Last week a large bear was caught on camera roaming Washington Drive so be aware.

Mark your calendars.  Saturday June 1st is National Trails Day.  Our own little town of Washington (courtesy of the Parks and Recreation and Conservation Committees) is hosting an event with the Monadnock Sunapee Greenway Trail Club. It will be a great opportunity to learn about and explore some of the trails in and around Washington.  Details to follow as we get closer to the event.

And finally, just a reminder that annual dues which cover our association expenses (insurance, dam registration, water testing, beach maintenance, etc) were due April 1st.  Thanks to all of those who have already sent their dues and reminder we need everyone’s support to effectively budget for the upcoming season and maintain our association. If you have not already done so please take a moment and get your check in the mail.

Regards,
John Butcher
President

Washington Lake Association Members:

Although you could hardly tell from the weather outside today it won’t be long until another great season of swimming and boating on the lake will be with us.  Washington has experienced a pretty normal winter snow wise this year with the official amount to date of 70.75 inches.  March  always seems to be the killer snow month, so we shall see!  The lake is in great shape for the Washington Fire Department’s  Annual Ice Fishing Tournament this coming weekend on all legal ponds in Washington (Feb 16-17th.)  If you get the chance stop up for some fun times and hopefully some big fish.

Please find enclosed the attached PDF file "2019 WLA Membership Form".  Annual dues are again $75 and are due by April 1st.  Kindly print it out, fill it in with any new contact information, and mail to the address listed.  As has always been the case our budget planning is based on our current paid membership status so your prompt payment helps us plan accordingly for the year ahead.

Please mark your calendars as we will be holding a Beach and Picnic Area Cleanup day Saturday May 25th (9-11am, Memorial Day Weekend.)  The date of our Annual Meeting and hotdog roast this year is June 29, 2019.

I look forward to seeing everyone and enjoying another great summer season!

THANK YOU FOR YOUR SUPPORT OF OUR LAKE ASSOCIATION!

With Best Regards,
  John Butcher
  WLA President
